Download Full 4Q Financial Release (PDF)
DEARBORN, Mich., January 28, 2010 – Ford Motor Credit Company reported net income of $1.3 billion in 2009, an improvement of $2.8 billion from a net loss of $1.5 billion a year earlier. On a pre-tax basis, Ford Credit earned $2 billion in 2009, compared with a loss of $2.6 billion in the previous year. Excluding the $2.1 billion impairment charge for North America operating leases in the second quarter of 2008, Ford Credit incurred a pre-tax loss of $473 million in 2008. The improvement in full year pre-tax earnings primarily reflected the non-recurrence of the impairment charge, lower depreciation expense for leased vehicles due to higher auction values, and a lower provision for credit losses, offset partially by lower volume. Ford Credit also significantly reduced its operating costs in 2009 compared with the previous year.
In the fourth quarter of 2009, Ford Credit’s net income was $440 million, an improvement of $668 million from a year earlier. On a pre-tax basis, Ford Credit earned $696 million in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with a loss of $372 million in the previous year. The improvement in pre-tax earnings primarily reflected lower depreciation expense for leased vehicles due to higher auction values and a lower provision for credit losses, offset partially by lower volume.
“Our profit and consistent, solid support of Ford Motor Company dealers and customers in a very challenging economy demonstrate our unique value as Ford’s financial services company,” Ford Credit Chairman and CEO Mike Bannister said. “We remain well-positioned to help put people behind the wheels of Ford products as the economy improves.”
On December 31, 2009, Ford Credit’s on-balance sheet net receivables totaled $93 billion, compared with $116 billion at year-end 2008. Managed receivables were $95 billion on December 31, 2009, down from $118 billion on December 31, 2008. The lower receivables primarily reflected lower industry volumes, lower dealer stocks, and the transition of Jaguar, Land Rover and Mazda financing to other finance providers.
On December 31, 2009, managed leverage was 7.3 to 1. In 2009, Ford Credit distributed $1.5 billion to its immediate parent, Ford Holdings LLC.
Ford Credit expects to be profitable in 2010, but lower than 2009 based on lower average receivables and non-recurrence of certain favorable 2009 factors.

DETROIT, Jan. 11, 2010 – Ford Motor Company scored a historic doubleheader today, capturing both the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year awards for the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 2010 Ford Transit Connect, respectively, at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). It is only the third time in 17 years that one manufacturer has won both titles.
“Winning both of these prestigious awards is confirmation that the ONE Ford plan is working, delivering industry-leading products for our customers,” said Mark Fields, president of The Americas.
The North American Car and Truck of the Year awards recognize vehicles based on factors including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar. A jury of 49 automotive journalists in the United States and Canada vote for the vehicles, which must be “all-new” or “substantially changed” from the previous model to qualify for the award.

The Fusion Hybrid edged out finalists including the Buick LaCrosse and Volkswagen Golf/GTI to win the North American Car of the Year award. It is the fourth hybrid vehicle in 17 years to win recognition as North American Car (or Truck) of the Year. It also is the second hybrid win for Ford – the most hybrid wins for any automaker. The Ford Escape Hybrid was named North American Truck of the Year in 2005.
The Transit Connect bested finalists including the Chevrolet Equinox and Subaru Outback to win the North American Truck of the Year award. It is the sixth Ford truck to win the award – the most wins of any automaker in the 17-year history of the awards program. It also is the second year in a row that Ford has captured the title. Last year, top honors went to the 2009 Ford F-150.
Fusion Hybrid a winner out of the gateThe North American Car of the Year award is the latest in an impressive string of awards and accolades for the Fusion Hybrid. Most recently, the vehicle was honored as CAR and DRIVER Magazine’s “10Best” Cars for 2010, one of AUTOMOBILE Magazine’s 2010 All-Stars, and the entire Fusion lineup captured the acclaimed MOTOR TREND Car of the Year® award.
The all-new Fusion Hybrid arrived in dealers in March, complete with a powertrain system that combines the best attributes of the gasoline engine and electric battery-driven motors to deliver the optimal experience for the customer in terms of driving performance and fuel economy. The Fusion Hybrid also offers drivers a way to be more connected to the hybrid driving experience thanks to Ford’s SmartGauge™ with EcoGuide, a unique instrument cluster execution that helps coach them on how to optimize the performance of their hybrid.
Other class-exclusive technologies and features that set the Fusion Hybrid apart from the competition include Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®), Ford SYNC®, SIRIUS Travel Link™ and more total passenger and luggage capacity than the Toyota Camry.
Despite the slump in overall industry sales, 2009 was a record-breaking year for the Ford Fusion. Sales are at an all-time high, with the Fusion Hybrid accounting for almost 20 percent of total Fusion retail sales. Perhaps even more significant, more than 60 percent of Fusion Hybrid sales have been to customers coming from import brands – mostly Toyota and Honda.

FORD MAKES NAVIGATION STANDARD ON MYFORD, SYNC-EQUIPPED VEHICLES
Navigation features will be standard on all Ford vehicles with MyFordTM and SYNC® with no extra hardware upgrades needed, making Ford the first automaker to compete with offerings from the hand-held navigation market
MyFord vehicle interface will have basic graphical turn-by-turn directions standard, with full map-based navigation delivered by Secure Digital (SD) card, eliminating the need for expensive, specialized navigation DVD drives and displays
Map-based SD card navigation builds on current SYNC Traffic, Directions & Information application, which delivers personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn directions and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports and weather – without the need for built-in navigation systems

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2010 – Ford Motor Company is the first automaker to launch an affordable navigation system that competes with the ease and upgradability of hand-held navigation devices.

Starting in 2010, a convenient, upgradable Secure Digital (SD) card-based navigation system requiring no expensive hardware or “head unit” electronics upgrades will be available for all Ford vehicles equipped with MyFord TouchTM. Turn-by-turn directions with generic display icons and voice guidance will be standard on all Ford vehicles with MyFord and SYNC®, using the existing Traffic, Directions & Information application.

The new system marks the first time that an automaker has offered a system that competes with the ease of use and upgradability of hand-held navigation devices, without requiring the purchase of an expensive navigation system upgrade.

Map-based SD card navigation builds upon SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information. The current system leverages industry-leading voice-recognition software, integrated GPS technology and a Bluetooth®-capable mobile phone to deliver personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn directions and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports and weather – without the need for a built-in navigation system.

Beginning with the Lincoln MKX crossover and its MyLincoln Touch system, which will be revealed at the North American International Auto Show next week, MyFord will begin to migrate across the company’s full product portfolio.

“Navigation systems have moved to the realm of automotive features consumers expect to find,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “Harnessing the power of SYNC and the flexibility of our new MyFord system, we’re bringing an affordable, accessible, easy-to-update navigation system to millions of new consumers.”

The move will eliminate the need for expensive optional factory navigation systems, as well as “stick-on” aftermarket units that don’t integrate well with vehicle interiors and can prove to be distracting.

Two levels of navigation
Visual representation of basic turn-by-turn navigation in MyFord Touch right-side 4.2-inch instrument panel displayLogin to download images. All Ford vehicles with SYNC will have turn-by-turn directions available via the Traffic, Directions & Information application enabled by the user’s mobile phone. The addition of MyFord and MyFord Touch driver connect technology brings a new visual element to the basic navigation system, thanks to the display capabilities built in to the systems.

MyFord gives drivers two 4.2-inch full-color LCD screens, one in the instrument panel and another in the center stack.

The MyFord Touch system brings two 4.2-inch LCD screens into the instrument panel and places an 8-inch touch screen in the center stack. Using the Traffic, Directions & Information application, either version of MyFord will be able to display turn arrows, street names and distance-to-turn information.

MyFord Touch SD card navigation map displayLogin to download images.“The MyFord displays really bring turn-by-turn directions alive for the first time,” said Jim Buczkowski, Ford director of Electronics and Electrical Systems Engineering. “Instead of just a voice telling drivers where to turn, there will now be visual cues in the form of street names, directional arrows and distance markers integrated right into the MyFord instrument cluster display.”

Vehicles equipped with the upgraded MyFord Touch system already will have an 8-inch touch-screen display built into the center stack, which also is capable of displaying basic turn-by-turn direction information. SD card navigation, supplied by TeleNav, will be available as an option for the MyFord Touch system, activated by inserting the SD card in to the system’s built-in Media Hub. The SD card will contain the map database and voice data, 3D map graphics and enhanced point-of-interest (POI) information from Wcities.

MyFord Media Hub featuring RCA inputs, two USB 2.0 ports and a SD card slotLogin to download images.“Storing navigation information on an SD card installed in the Media Hub will be simpler and less expensive for customers and suppliers alike,” said Jason Johnson, Ford user interface design engineer. “In the past, map data were stored on a hard drive and updates took a significant amount of time to load from DVD. To get a map update with MyFord, you simply take the old SD card out of the Media Hub and pop in a new one. It will be the first time an automaker will offer something that competes with personal navigation devices.”

Lowering costs while expanding accessibility
Because the navigation system is simply an application that runs on SYNC, the map database and POI information can be contained on a relatively inexpensive SD card. This new capability eliminates the costs of an internal hard drive storage system and DVD player for map updates.

“When we designed MyFord one of our driving principles was the democratization of technology,” said Kuzak. “Navigation doesn’t have to be a high-end luxury product. With MyFord, it will be standard on almost every Ford vehicle worldwide, and we believe it will help more people look forward to spending time behind the wheel of our vehicles.”
Ford Racing Just Got Cooler
January 6, 2010
Ken Block is probably best known for cultivated a tremendous following with his Gymkhana videos on YouTube. Some people also know that he was the 2005 Rally America Rookie of the Year and a three-time medalist at X Games. What you didn’t know until know is that Ford is teaming up with the California-based action sports icon-turned-rally driver, for future global motorsports opportunities.
In 2010, Block will campaign a Ford Focus in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and a Ford Fiesta in Rally America and X Games.
“I am stoked to be rallying in a Ford. They are an impressive force in the sport.” said Ken Block. “From the days of the 1970s Escorts to the Group B RS200 to the modern-day Focus and now the Fiesta, Ford just does an excellent job at rally and I couldn’t be happier to now be part of this amazing heritage. Not to mention my dad would be proud. He was a dedicated Ford guy.”
Rallying is a crucial part of Ford’s global motorsports strategy and provides the company with the opportunity to showcase the true performance capabilities of Ford’s products. Since its support of rallying began, Ford has won three WRC titles and 73 individual events. And, last year in North America, Ford’s participation in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and X Games 15 were key elements for the launch of the Ford Fiesta for the U.S.
“Ken Block has established himself as an action sports competitor and a rising star in the world of American rally racing,” said Jamie Allison, director Ford North America Motorsports. “We are excited to have him on our team to help promote our new global products, the 2011 Ford Fiesta and 2012 Ford Focus.”
Ken Block’s rally career began in 2005. His skill and car control were quickly apparent and Block was aptly named Rookie of the Year in the Rally America Championship. Since then, he has continued to race in the series, boasting a healthy number of podium appearances, as well as X Games medals. In addition to his performance in the car, Block has been a driving force in shining a spotlight on the sport of rally in the United States. Before entering motorsports, Block co-founded DC Shoes, a worldwide leader in performance skateboarding shoes and a renowned action sports brand. His keen sense of marketing not only helped elevate DC to their current status, but it has also allowed Block to achieve global fame as a national rally driver through his very successful viral video campaigns. Ad Age named his Gymkhana TWP film the No. 4 Viral Video of 2009.
“We’re delighted that Ken Block has chosen to team up with Ford to develop his rallying activities beyond America and into the global arena,” said Gerard Quinn, Ford of Europe’s senior motorsports manager. “Ford and its U.K.-based rally partner, M-Sport, is looking forward to welcoming Ken to the wider team of talented rally drivers using Ford vehicles to compete in this demanding sport at the highest level internationally.”
